WONDERGROUND TEAM MEMBER LETTER
Dear Wonderground Team Member:
Thanks so much for joining us on the team that puts on Wonderground. This page is to acquaint you with the basic procedures and ground rules for working with us at The Wonderground.
- Jeff McBride and/or Jordan Wright are in charge, and will direct you in your duties. Always try and keep an eye on either Jeff or Jordan for cues during the evening, so they can make the best use of your talents to help sculpt the best possible experience for everyone.
- Please be sure and show up at least 1 hour before the doors open to the general public so that you can have enough time to set up any props you need to, orient yourself to the space, and consult with Jeff or Jordan about how they see the evening going.
- Our aim with Wonderground is to engage people with interactive, immersive magic. As a scheduled performer for the parlor or stage show, you also agree to connect with patrons prior to showtime. This could include introducing yourself and welcoming them, performing a bit of strolling magic, or anything that will create magic moments for people sitting in lounges and VIP booths.
- In an effort to maximize the time and exposure of our performers we ask that the performers who do a piece on stage also work strolling or do a short set in the close-up room early in the evening so that all performers can be featured as much as possible during the evening.
- If you are doing anything in your act which might possibly be deemed dangerous – either to yourself or someone else who might get too close, or if you are using fire in any way during the act, please make sure Jeff and Jordan are aware of this in advance, and have approved the performance. Any fire performer must have a fire safety person standing by with water and duvatine.
- We’re all here for the experience and publicity more than for the money. However, there IS some financial compensation for all our team members:
- We will “pass the hat” once during the evening. The moneys collected are divided evenly amongst the stage and close up performers. If a performer performs in either both stage shows or the close up and stage shows, they will receive two shares of the hat. The hat money will be given to performers at the end of the evening, so do not leave without checking in with the stage manager.
- Each team member receives one gift card for each evening at The Wonderground, worth $100 towards a class at The McBride Magic & Mystery School or a consultation with Jeff McBride.
- We ask individual performers who stroll table to table to not hustle for tips when they perform. Wonderground is about gifting magical experiences. The audience will have the opportunity and are encouraged to show their appreciation financially with a magic hat pass at the end of the final stage show.
- Complimentary admissions: There is a $10.00 admission fee for Wonderground. We can ask that this be waived for performers plus 1 guest for each of our performers. Due to the small size of the venue we can only give one complimentary admission.
- There is limited seating available in the main club room. Please be aware and inform your guests to sit at tables and not to sit in the reserved VIP cabanas.
- As a team member for The Wonderground, you recognize that you are a representative of McBride Magic, Inc., Jeff McBride and The Olive. As such, you agree that you will abide by all laws while at The Wonderground, and limit your alcohol consumption to not more than 2 drinks over the course of the evening.
- Due to the mixed-cultural clientele inappropriate, foul language by the performers is forbidden.
- You hereby affirm that you understand your participation in The Wonderground is as an independent contractor, and nothing in this letter or your relationship with McBride Magic, Inc. and/or The Olive that shall be construed as an employer / employee relationship. You are solely responsible for your own insurance, worker’s compensation, taxes and the like.
